I’m trying to find information about style and design issues for internet sites that are embedded in electronic devices. What I mean is that there are several devices that have become available that will be configurable and controllable by the web browser since they want web servers embedded within them. Think about setting up your router and you may know what I’m speaking about.
Most (if not all) of the information and web themes I see about website design is for corporate sites that have the specific style and philosophy about how the site shall be navigated. Embedded web sites are not like that. With an embedded site, a user will certainly normally access a page to choose the status of a new device, and subsequently maybe change the setting or a pair of. No reading reports, searching, or other suggestions that typically occur on corporate websites. Since these equipment have simple processors as well as small memory prerequisites, there’s no Pen, video, or almost every other fancy thing that will you’d see on a " normal" site.
Has anyone previously given any thought to how we would design for one such devices Any resources that you could think of in which address these problems
Are you discussing designing pages for small screen devices
Or have you been talking more about embedded servers that generate their unique pages

Simply no, I’m not discussing small screen units. Actually, it will be the exact opposite. As opposed to small client/normal server it’s a small server/normal clientele.
What I’m discussing is small devices who have web servers that are part of them to being able to be configured that has a browser. On my own modest little multilevel, I have SIX or 7 these devices: routers, network enabled webcams (the ones that are fitted with an ethernet port rather than a USB port), network attached storage systems, etc. Companies like D-Link along with Linksys make this stuff.
The thing of which these devices possess in common would be that the pages they offer up typically never look so wonderful. I’m guessing that they’re put together by engineers and never designers.
Has anyone planned designing for these devices You could use normal web page designs just for this environment, but getting older fit so well due to how the devices are utilized. Instead of an ordinary browsing experience, You have the pages served up to see the status on the device, and modify the configuration.
I’d personally imagine that the particular pages displayed through routers and what-not are generally generated dynamically with the firmware, due on the direct interaction they’ve with the computer hardware. As such, I’d personally assume you’d have to rewrite the firmware to change the look of the article.
You’re appropriate, you would really need to rewrite the firmware, but that’s what I’m trying to do.
Okay, maybe it would help merely gave a bit more background. I’m an engineer, not a designer. I’m in the act of building one such devices, and unlike many engineers, I do have an appreciation for ever UI design. I recently can’t do the item. I’ve built a web site interface for this particular device, and the item works great yet looks horrible. I’m hoping to renovate this.
So now I’m trying to find help. I’ve looked at lots of open source design sites and I’ve found lots of designs that look fantastic. Unfortunately, they are usually totally inappropriate intended for my needs. I really believe that the needs on the website that describes a company or product became different from an internet site that confgures some sort of device.
There are several products on sales that have these kinds of issues, and a lot more coming down the pike seeing that everything becomes IP allowed. From what I’ve seen, there’s not lots of thought given for how to create nice UI designs for these products. Could be an excellent niche for someone to buy.

Okay, so imagine you took one such devices and embedded it suitable toaster so you could potentially control the doing of toast from a upstairs bedroom (which carries a computer in it). You’re looking to turn the item on and off of, control the night, even schedule toasting with the morning (let a person’s imagination run wild). And ofcourse, that you deal with the toaster by having a web browser that interacts when using the tiny web server that’s for this SitePlayer device.
Hence here’s my difficulty: everything I’ve at any time seen about good site design assumes your web site educates on a company or a product or service. I’ve never found anything about developing beautiful, functional, easy-to-use web sites that are utilized to control toasters. Seeing that I write this kind of post, I’m looking at the WDF. net inbterface and I see the design that’s pretty well thought out, attractive, and intuitive to utilize. However, if I endeavor to copy/steal some ideas for a ControlTheToaster " web site", it merely won’t translate. As a minimum I don’t think it’ll.
So that’s definitely what my question is focused on. How do I do making a great interface to overpower a device by having a web browser
BTW, the project I’m working away at is NOT a toaster. I’m simply using that to give an example that everyone could understand.
With the price tag on Gigabytes of " memory on a chip" so affordable, I would just guess
this hardware designers might put more attempt into allowing better site
design capabilities thus to their embedded servers.
Whenever they were smart, they would follow the way of SitePlayer as well as allow the
product user/designer to generate their own internet sites.
Since there is absolutely no standard for that will (that I’m conscious of), it could take someone

Although, you have a new point about a niche. I guess identical thing exists for
smaller screen rendering (cell cellphone browsers).
