Hi there,
I’m tasked with upgrading our company website: http: //www. techniksusa. com… and one of the goals is to develop a site with a user interface regarding updating the content – so as soon as new products are created (or deleted) shots, descriptions, part #’s, or anything else… the UI is usually accessed by any schmoe, and once the updates are built to the dbase or maybe CMS, then the actual website will populate accordingly. That’s the dream anyway.
I appreciate any guidance to reference point material or products people think I should take a look at, etc. Please check out there the website link above to see the species of content I am dealing with.
With thanks tons,

It depends just what exactly features you’ll be in search of but broadly speaking WordPress is a superb place to begin. It’s very easy to educate yourself admin-wise, has a huge amount of really excellent themes or templates and plugins available as a starting point, and is generally the most used CMS for smallish internet sites.
I noticed you’ve got tables on a lot of the product pages. WP doesn’t deal adequately with creating tables out of the box but I am aware there are jacks that add the interface for creating those so that it shouldn’t be much of an issue.
Yes,
WP, Drupal, Joomla, phpFusion, and many more cms’s will be able to handle this.
Looking at the website and the amount of stuff on there, you have a new gargantuan task prior to you! Good Luck!
Michelledancer – after you say WP is actually suited for smallish sites I’m sure that may eliminate ours. It’s approx 220 sites which seems quite huge.
Thanks Mike – I’ll read those. Now where is the fact coffee pot

just to follow-up : our features / functionality list looks like this:
Preferred Functionality
switch menu system in order to l-side of tv screen from current (top)
seek out by part # and/or keyword
add products to a cart for RFQ : support for forms and auto-respond
Browse or search by product type
Browse or search by toolholding technology
Ability to increase or link video tutorials to any page
Flexibility to download CAD data files, zips, pdf

another consideration will be site has to be SEO friendly. Our site is approximately 12 years good old and doesn’t adjust much so our organics are very good, and our primary technique of advertising our items is PPC products (pay-per-click Google & Bing) and naturally organic search final results.

See ideally I’d say Drupal, it’s considerably more flexible and successful, but the problem there’s that it’s not only intuitive admin-wise. If you’re willing to spend time training people through to using it, and they are not complete technophobes, it’s the way to go.
My WP idea was heavily motivated by how easy it can be for site admins to educate yourself. The size with the site isn’t all the of an issue because the variety in web site templates, from what POST saw yours didn’t have a great number of different layouts coming from page to page it could work.
Drupal would nevertheless be better because they have modules like CCK and Views that cause it to easy to display content however you desire, wherever you need, but it is dependent upon your priorities really… you need to be able to weigh that facing how much time you’re ready to spend showing people today the ropes.
: ) I’m viewing the Drupal intro these days… I looks quite cool and I could see it provides a lot, although I haven’t seen among an industrial products and solutions site like our bait – mostly social interaction sites, but that’s becoming more crucial that you us – we all just recently added advertising and marketing sites to our world. I’ll let you know how it runs. I’m going to get to digest loads of tutorials on the following…
thx,

I’m going to suggest are really not going to find what you want " out from the box. " I’ve worked about industrial sites before, and for a few reason manufacturers in particular push the limits of technology despite being able to use it about approximately I’d get use outside season tickets in order to Shakespeare dinner theater. And given a lot of the requests that you’ve (search by " toolholding technology", whatever that may be, being one associated with them), you’re likely to have two decisions.
take something for a WordPress or the Drupal and modify it until you get what you want. I’ve never made use of Drupal but I’ve used WordPress, and I don’t recommend it for just what you’re doing. People think it’s the greatest thing to happen for the Internet since many guys in California misspelled the idea of " googol" and located a search motor, but it’s greatest pieces of hackable crap to choose from. I’ve had sites hacked 3 x that I’ve worked on, and two analysts have been Live journal blogs (one was my very own, and one has been a client’s). You’re going to take more time keeping it updated than you’ll actually implementing attributes.
build your personal, from scratch. This would depend on what you’re accomplishing and how far you wish to take this point, but given the kind of customization today and possibly when you need it, I’d suggest going by doing this… and if you’re really feeling froggy, going for a hard look on the ASP. net composition with an SQL device backend. You is capable of doing the search no issue, videos can become added (although Concerning only played with this a tiny bit), this RFQ forms are quite easily executed, and anything to do with uploading is that are part of the framework. The downside is the fact ASP. net has a total ***** of any learning curve. You’ll be frustrated if you this route, no question. But it’s worth it eventually.
Thanks TheGAME… I’d love to be at the particular point where I’d feel safe building from scuff, but I’m not necessarily there yet. It can be my goal to acquire fluent at webdev, but it’ll take some moment. I come from a graphic design / dreamweaver / a few html coding ability form of background and Relating to an interesting selection of skillsets under our belt as I function to be a 1-man creative agent for my work environment, but my development skills and scripting expertise / and my understand of the technologies all need development…: ) I’m not afraid to your workplace hard on understanding new tech, and I realize that’s time good spent, but I are deprived of the luxury of time and effort to get happening this project, and I don’t desire to hand it off to another person because then MY SPOUSE AND I don’t learn jack — so I’m gonna continue to observe Drupal or something like that and ch
