Please help me make this design better

Hey guys,

I’m new here but I would like some feedback. I developing this page on a stretched deadline, I’m doing the whole thing, design+development. The site is actually for a sports event, sort of like track along with field but by using other sports as well. Users can register, join teams, look at other teams. Admins might add sports, modify users, news for example.. I’m practically done when using the PHP/MySQL portion however the person I’m handling is really hung up on the design.

I do not think it’s my greatest design, but POST still think it really is good. It would be a lot better plainly had far more time. I was going backward and forward and my understanding was that the person liked the design, but they are certainly not satisfied with the item. They’re saying anything is " missing", the actual layout needs far more " padding" understanding that it looks as a wall of text They carry on referring to your Vancouver2010. com website (thanks to create my job a great deal harder) and they demand me to use some of the people elements yet they still want it to look such as current design.

I got wondering if you guys can give me some advice on the not-so-drastic things I’ll change. Even longing for you . it’s good, please make suggestions that may make it better. I’m thinking more contrast when using the background color, along with a better font in the header. Besides which, what can MY PARTNER AND I do

Thanks a great deal!

Try this kind of simple change…

Inside the " style. css" file, find this range:
#mainColum thicker: 660px; float: remaining;

Transform it to:

#mainColum
thicker: 620px;
underlay: 0px 20px 0px 20px;
float: left;

I’m sure that adding padding (white space) to the left and right with the content might aid.

MODIFY:
I made a mistake inside the padding line… you should fix it (like I did above).

.

In addition to this:

#mainColum
thicker: 620px;
float: left;

#home-page #content
underlay: 20px 30px;

Yes..
I’m sure the " little thing that’s missing" is supposed to be about the white room, or lack thereof.

I can try out your own suggestions. But would you guys think it can be that bad of an design Would people instantly be turned away by it Something they also brought was construct y didn’t know if it had been too user pleasant: S

I’m just a little confused, I don’t see how this is the bad design that could turn people out…

Looks OK in my experience….
I just assume the text is too towards the left side, but not enough space between to the right.

Bright space issues.

The actual " something is not really quite right" work… very common as soon as doing sites if anyone else is.
Little we can say about this, as each person has their tastes.

The leading page has any letter from director, but it’s just like the " About" web site.
Mid-section keeping the text on main internet page, but, and possibly not mention that
it’s just a letter… simply explain exactly what the website is about. On the related to page, have
a new explanation, with another letter from this director.

Looks like redundant, and the actual italics is challenging to read.

People will open a web site, and they want to know exactly what it really is about in 5-10 just a few seconds.
Thus, you might prefer to change the way you explain it to the main page….

Nevertheless make more bright space too…. that’s the greatest problem.

MODIFY:
Looks better already…

Push the best column over (to the correct more), so there’s far more space between each columns.

Maybe 10 more pixels around the left margin

.

Well, actually, what the simple truth is on the front page may be a news post, they wanted to acquire the letter as a news post as well as in the about page, more news goods will added as time passes, I’m assuming. I italicized it inside the news post to provide it more of the " quoted" experience.

I added the padding that you simply first suggested, is still not plenty of white space

What exactly is one supposed to undertake if the client is never happy with the design After all I’m trying away things, nothing which they often like. Everyone I’ve revealed this to seems to enjoy it, only the people I’m performing it for are unhappy about it. What am I speculated to tell them

I’m sure the added white space has helped considerably. Very subtle, but looks significantly better.

Just curious…
What sort of CMS system are you using
How is the articles and situations getting updated

I think it is good to spice-up this events (each one among them) in the correct column.
Possibly put a bubble, or soft border around every. That would start being active . color.
Likewise, a color image below the events (in the best column)

It’s too late to mention this now, nevertheless a written agreement about design, progression,
then when the project is considered " finished" needs been completed. Everyone may
end-up inside a situation where you and also the client cannot see whether you’re done or maybe not.
How long will certainly the changes come about When contemplating able to demand more fees

For anyone who is not using any CMS, where the customers can add their very own content,
that might be the key for the whole issue. When they were to add content and photos,
then the manage over that (spicing it up) could well be placed on them, not you.

MODIFY:
Just like an experiment,
Try adding far more space between lines however column…

#mainColum
thicker: 620px;
line-height: 16px;
underlay: 0px 20px 0px 20px;
float: left;

I’m just guessing around the 16px. Keep so that it is bigger, so there
is usually more space between lines… it could make it easier to help read and
sound less crowded.

.

I coded my CMS where that admin can add/edit/delete admins, modify users, add/edit/delete announcement posts, add/edit/delete sporting activities. People can register, sign up for the sport, create or maybe join a staff, members can be captain of their team and kick people or approve people for their team.

My biggest regret is not really having that signed agreement with the features etc.. Here is the first time I work over and above a site such as rent a programmer or elance.

Regards so much for that feedback, I will ever try out your ideas tonight.

I have been looking at your web blog on a major monitor (20 inch) but it looks nice.

Nevertheless now, on your smaller monitor, the outer blue background doesn’t show-up,
so all I see will be main content… understanding that makes it not look as good.

How are ones clients viewing as well as On a big monitor

Most people now use more substantial monitors (and browsers), so possibly that your
clients are viewing it using a smaller monitor and therefore, the bad complexion.

Maybe you may want to implement a sticky footer. There are plenty of them on the online, some work as good as others but this one is my particular favourite and i apply it on almost actually site. It works fantastic for pages of which dont contain numerous content and it gives an excellent consistent feel towards your site.
