Getting started, could use advice

Howdy everyone,

This can be my first post on this website after doing some extensive seeking and research on web development issues.

I am I professional freelance photographer which is getting into web page design to not simply design and maintain my website for digital photography training, but to hopefully help to increase my income simply by doing contract job and designing whenever I’m not firing.

Once doing some investigation on colleges along with tech schools, I have decided may well cost too very much and take too long to visit a 4 calendar year college for website design….. I just need to find out the basics of web design get going, and later POST may consider a qualification in marketing.

We have decided on any local tech school that offers a certification in web development, and will take one year. I spoke towards instructor, and he is willing to work with me on attendance so far as my photography should go (I shoot NASCAR races and ought to be out of smaller population center for days at a time) some colleges I looked into were not willing to begin this.

My question is, how do i make the many out this course since it’s essentially a crash course in web development Are there several things I should know that will serve me get a leg up

Also, I was wondering if as a photographer will help me over time in getting contract jobs….. For illustration, being able to create my own images for application into a web site, instead of having to pay usage fees pertaining to images. Would it help me make more money, or would it just end up being more work

Thanks in advance for taking a few minutes to read this post, I appreciate the many help I gets.

I just jumped right in webdesign and was self taught. I do have a bonus since I’ve owned my own computers since 1983 (first just one was a Commodore 64 — anyone remember ESSENTIAL aka TURTLE, in addition to RUN magazine) Nevertheless, a crash course could help you get a superb start on the basics. Programming changes so quickly lately, (ie. RSS & AJAX) that just jumping right in is really the only way to keep up to date. In fact We have only recently develop into comfortable with CSS and after this am tasked in order to update clients sites to perform better & more quickly (NO TABLES – YUCK! ) So once you learn nothing about WEB CODING, XHTML, SHTML, PHP, ASP, espresso, css, etc. then yes consider the course to buy a foundation, but of course learn as much and often by programming/testing like there is no tomorrow!

I also have a background with photography, and certainly, it helps. But not in the same way described by audiofreak.

The principles of composition in addition to general visual conceptual are all however relevant in web page design. Incorporating photography and images towards layout, definitely an advantage. A sense connected with graphic design, which is directly related to both photography and web development is very handy, and will not be obsolete in the few months.

We have designed a number of sites for friends and get good knowledge associated with html.
If I were going to build websites for the money would I have to have any qualifications or anything prefer that

The proof is due to the pudding. While getting that little bit of paper saying how good you’re is desirable, you can’t beat experience.

I wouldn’t have any qualifications and also my workload is continually improving, through this web pages (and other websites like its) Request A service feature, and by person to person.

So, no you are through using qualifications to build websites for the money, although for an enormous company they may possibly expect you for being qualified.

I consider bfsog, but I also want to indicate that oftentimes a niche site for money is known for a different look & feel than web pages you’d make on your friends. How good are you at professional-looking web coding

Actually, I just got started and I’m in the deal of learning WEB CODING. I’m a easy learner so I figure I’ll have the ability to start making a bundle with basic HTML PAGE pages in several months….. Then certainly, I will develop honing my layout skills and job towards higher-end, higher paying webpages. That’s my goal for the moment….. I’ll see what the results are as time proceeds and I’ll hold an open thought process, that’s for guaranteed.

Right.
So I might sell websites without the need of qualifications so long as I have the experience and knowledge to complete so.

Will there be anything else I’d need before I could sell a internet site or offer my services with a client

A good dark suit & connect LOL!!!

Oftentimes a portfolio.
