Page number TWO would require two requests on the browser to that server, one per image. Furthermore, bear in mind that a majority of fast connections (cable, DSL) have got an asymmetric bandwidth, using the upload being much slower approach download, so a lot more request are built, the slower the ultimate loading of the page is going to be.
