Common flash gallery

.dhtml, flash or java?

Howdy everyone, I used to be thinking of setting up a poll of this specific, but would value better answers. I would just like the opinion of the floor as to, when the using either is possible, what the preference is made for. dhtml, flash, java or any option and exactly why, when designing a niche site.
