What should i know about web design??

Hello all, ( quite a broad question to suit your needs )
Im fairly new to web site design – from a product / packaging / visualisation design and style background! I have learnt martial arts training in many areas of web design but rather than carry on about what i know i would really prefer to know just what i need to find out Kid design the major standard websites that you just all get asked to design!
Which areas are most important to you – and why
How much lisenced users do i should find out to build with regard to ecommerce sites / types / databases / search etc
Any great links to tutorials for what you believe are important will be great!
Hopefully people starting out should use your posts to the current to help them in the process!
Cheers,
Edd.

It does be based upon what you would like to do.

Obviously you have to know CSS along with XHTML. Keep informed on that prominent, and keep your sites you make informed with it.

Anyone mention database work and forms, etc. XHTML can’t try this alone, so you may need a server side coding language such as PHP or ASP, or even JSP or whatsoever. Personally I’m finding out PHP and making use of MySQL for data source work. I can’t say if it is the best or best option, since I’ve never used whatever else.

I guess it is equally good to know Javascript in addition, so you can make your pages dynamic about the client side. Scripts coded which includes a server side terminology don’t run instantly – they’re processed only when they’re requested with the client. Using javascript, you should utilize code to find out if forms are inserted correctly or certainly not, for example. I recognize nothing technical using this though.

Pertaining to tutorials, W3schools undoubtedly are a good start. Trouble is, their HTML tutorial continues to HTML 4. 1, I believe.

Any sort connected with dynamic content will be driven by any server-side language. PHP is extremely popular, because it’s relatively simple, very RAD (rapid software development), free, and deployed on most hosts.

However, it’s a bit of garbage for legitimate enterprise applications (true OO appeared to be just added around version 5). JSP plus, more common everyday, ASP. NET tend to be popular for such applications, and rightly so.

Sure, you’ll note this great site is powered by way of PHP, and the idea tears me upwards inside.

Then again, before you start with all in which, just learn XHTML, with CSS (the a couple of are directly related; XHTML defines the structure and content of any page, CSS defines its appearance–in a great world). If you’ve any questions, that is always the location to ask. Pleasant (to the Hell of web design).

Plus, as per common, I’ll mention Dark red on Rails, because it rocks my planet. This, by the way in which, is an different than PHP, ASP. WEB, JSP (or JavaServer Fronts, or whatever Espresso technology), etc. There are numerous things you can run on the server side for considerations.

Cheers Folks good quality advice!
My organization is looking into CSS on the mo, when in the opinion do you would imagine IE7 will become popular for users to have instead of IE6 – if im wanting to use transparency’s many people look crap throughout IE6 but acceptable in Firefox! Could it be a while for IE7 being popular for people i take it it is definately an overnight point
Also concerning MySQL and PHP – Must need any certain programmes

Bless you again!
Edd.

I think IE6 took three to four years. I’d expect the same type of timing for IE7. Additionally , it depends on who seem to you’re designing with regard to — some companies requires you to design for just a lower version selection. I had to undertake it for IE5 some months ago. Which was hell.

Additionally, if you’re seeking a compliment to help Ruby on Bed rails using PHP, have a look at cakePHP. It’s determined by Ruby on Rails and is particularly pretty handy regarding creating data powered websites. I’m trying it out with a new site I am just creating and it’s working well thus far.

Yeah, I tried CakePHP. Ouchies. It truly is okay, don’t acquire me wrong, it just reminds everyone constantly that PHP just isn’t Ruby. Prefixing each of the methods with $this-> acquired old fast, and I started hunting for ways in i always could just switch to Rails.

Plenty of people I know follow the browser fitted on their COMPUTER ITSELF, only computer persons (programmers, web creative designers, PC technicians) as well as people under concerning 25 change thier browser ourselves in my practical knowledge. As for listings, I know WEB CODING, XHTML, just learned CSS but I could truthfully do a collection orientated site seeing that Dreamweaver MX/8 does all the code for an individual. (ok usually not code that is going to validate but POST usually sort of which out later)

Plenty of people dislike generated code because you’ll find no control about how exactly the real gears and pulleys work underneath your skin unless we choose to hand-edit it afterwards (in which case we ought to have just obeyed from the beginning).

It might be worthwhile to note that many people are getting more utilized to the entire " free-service" trend on line and I’ve seen many everyday adults testing out new web blog or downloading things. And in like case alternative browsers are a must.

Some computer service companies offer an alternative cell phone built-in. And most world wide web cafes that Patient in (even around my country where the web hasn’t propagate too much) get Firefox…

CSS and XHTML is usually a must. As intended for server side programing, there are alot of dreary zones. I think php is a good for light scripting, and RoR will work for a real, large, projects. I believe ASP. NET is likewise good (there tend to be more jobs for ASP. WEB programmers compare to help RoR).

As for tutorials, I the surprised about wikibooks. org. It has all the information you need to learn (for beginners atleast). It has the clean, easy to be able to follow, and has tutorials for some software, programming ‘languages’, etc.

Hello, Guys, can anyone help me to uncover some good guide site for net designing. I am avry much intersted in learning as fast as possible. I would plan to know the one which can teach my family everything about website designing. Thanks

Very well, I run a tutorial site but can’t show you it as that will be advertising(which isn’t allowed here) and so try htmldog. com or even webdesignfromscratch. com.
