You may need Flash, its in essence all done by using flash, you could make most this with adobe flash components. Saying that i’d expect a great deal of this uses action script to create it work.
Should you be new to flash i’m sure making something such as this as your first project would have been a bit of some sort of mistake, this is due to the size in addition to relative complexity with the site.

it uses mainly flash as mentioned previously but i could not see this appearing too complicated in the least, it wouldn’t apply much actionscript only mostly frames, clleular layers, scenes and movement tweens
