Even worth making a portfolio?

I guess this can be sort of related to somebody that has actually gotten business of these portfolio sites…

The following is my situation… I’ve always been interested in the web/computers. I started building my first webpages after i was… oh, declare probably 10-12 (’91-93: dismayed. In any instance I never took it seriously, although as time elevated I learned brand-new things here as well as there, eventually getting to the stage of writing my own html code, then I attempted ASP and today I’m pretty sufficient in PHP and also knowing some quite basic perl. This past year I got a career in an skill gallery taking photos with a digital camera and cleaning them up to send to this webmaster of internet. sdgallery. com. Hence.. I learned lots of Photoshop real quick after which it played with them on my own to the point where I can design my own , personal stuff now half way decent. I’ve also gamed around with flash somewhat (only know how to do movies right now)

Today.. as far as getting covered webdesign, it’s all just sort of fallen into my own lap. People here as well as there have inquired me personally to complete web sites, and from now on I’m updating www. towerframing. com permenantly (pay examine every 2 weeks).
I know if I essentially took my web design seriously I could get a couple a lot more quick jobs from people I know at home.

My question can be… do you consider it’s even worth every penny for me to make a portfolio I have at least 3-5 sites I can show as cases. I wouldn’t mind the other cash (web design won’t be a complete time job with regard to me), but I observe a bazillion web portfolios around and don’t observe how I could possibly get mine noticed, specially since I will not consider my style and design skills exceptional.

It is not that hard to create a portfolio… just screenshot and (optionally) url to the sites showcased. A few added dollars never injure anybody

I do think it’d be of great benefit to make a portfolio, I keep mine up primarily because it’s fun. I didn’t make my portfolio with the intention of getting a lot of hits and positions off of the major search engines, it’s more of a web business card for my home. I put them in my bank in emails, and have it linked to from most of the sites I’ve executed. You’re right, there are tons of portfolios around, and I don’t believe mine stands out when you are looking at lots of them. However, if you’re able to give someone in conversation (or over a real business card) the world wide web address of any portfolio that’s a dot. com (and certainly not geocities. com/mycoolportfolio or something cheesy), I do think that’s something that may get you seen.

Plus, you can tinker around along with your portfolio up to you want instead of have to concern yourself with pleasing anyone else!: ichatcool:

Heh that is certainly true… to be honest Relating to at least A FEW starts of templates for your portfoio/company from when I have been previously bored over time So putting on the sites would have been a big deal for me because I often never start something half-assed (always start big and enever finish )

That’s most evident about just working with a website for a card/people

if people want to see what you’ve accomplished, a portfolio site will show them all the function you’ve done on one page. people like this particular and it tends to make yourself an less complicated sell.

Very good discounts on business cards if you would like get some low-cost quality cards.

Today that’s value!: -p

A NEW blank backside! I hate when business cards do not own that! It’s great they’re throwing it set for free! I’m about to sign up today!

Anyhow, Brak, I think it would worth making some sort of portfolio, simply because you’ve got a consolidated source involving everything you’ve executed. A web designer with not a website (even a new casual one) is similar to a car mechanic with not a body shop because (s)he’s missing a key component of the enterprise.
