Please point me in right direction – client populating a table of images and descrips

Hi

Just joined this specific forum and was hoping for someone to aid me figure out and about ‘a client wishes to edit their private website scenario / Err! ‘

Basically a have a simple page website for the auto dealer. On one page the client wants to have a list of autos in the particular garage with summary description and graphic. It needs that they are possible to check out the image link that can bring the viewer into a page with more pictures in the auto and further more text details.

I had set this up with simpleviewer and flickr though the layout was drastically wrong for them so its returning to the drawing boards of what they desire (see below)

among what I need is here

Paudy Buckley

I’m am utilized to searching and series etc however I have no idea what format WHEN I should even be researching just for this. Is it software just like frontpage etc is it some type of database I need to setup on the equipment Can anyone i highly recommend you point the steps that we need to explore to achieve this type of developed

I created the website with Dreamweaver CS4 doing a Mac

Also when there is good user friendly software to choose from that is often opensource or pay off any tips is appreciated.

thank you

i’m sure you could find pre-builds for this but if you have dreamweaver i would complement that. for others in the industry i recommend evaluating php and mysql. they’re the most generally supported platforms with regard to scripting and DBs. html form> php script> DB. i would stear free from javascript platforms because of this project because it will include nothing that php would not do and slows along page load. furthermore php has the actual " GD" lib that may be capable of resizing images upon upload. if you appreciate the idea we have a php-gd resizing script i could provide you with. i’ll check returning later.

No doubt, this is gonna involve PHP in addition to MySQL (for the actual database).
Using PHP and MySQL is really a function of your own webhost server, so that you can
make page templates at house, but you have to do some coding
manually , and upload files to check them online. It is not something you
can perform offline and analyze without owning your own server.

WordPress or Joomla would have been a closer match to things you require, but unless
you realize PHP/MySQL, you’ll still end-up working with a programmer. You can
probably take care of the graphics and page layouts, but I’m guessing you don’t
possess much PHP/MySQL experience, by how people worded your publish.

Hi Thanks for your response,

So Let me have to find my hands unclean with PHP as well as MySQL!

A bit more details on my a higher level experience

I have an internet site on a server so I will use that to use stuff online and have used wordpress to get a different project like a full CMS site not just a blog for the last year that is hosted untreated server not Live journal. I set which up myself so obviously was required to create my own database while using instructions from wordpress so i have some familiarity with investigating PHP when touch-ups templates however all these modifications were from in depth tutorials so I must do a good little bit of learning to start writing PHP from scratch.

You have got me thinking to thinking about different WordPress tempates again being a CMS for this kind of client. I avoided this before as however the wordpress admin is actually great once you are aware of it, It can feel a bit daunting for your someone who just really wants to change images and also text. But as I write i always realise we will have some learning for the client regardless. We will pay thus to their own hosting service so We can upload any template I need. Its the usual drama of these wanting to upload their unique images but having not much computer experience therefore the route associated with flickr seemed probably the most easiest.

Thanks Dorky for anyone your suggestions. People mention pre-builds, does one mean ready made scripts with with any luck , instruction I’ll do research online for them. I don’t understand however how a client can upload their particular images on their side while using the PHP and MySql procedure The script an individual mentioned sounds fantastic although I have to make sure i can use some PHP early on.

Anyhow, I will do research online for the previously referred to methods, have a review of what wordpress templates which have been out there which may suit the site layout, and try maintain the client amused for any little longer. What’s annoying is I could put this together in Dreamweaver very fast and then do the updates with the client as they need…. might actually advocate that to these people!

thanks again for facilitating me think outside the house the closed tags!

It is not just the client needing to upload some graphics and text.
The good news is need for some sort of logical database to match the photo to the text,
and allow them to provide, edit, delete, or schedule them to look.

And what happens if they want to generate some appear on one page, but not another

For a second time, it would require some form of database, and a method to manage it.

I know what could happen….
You may create this for them, show them what it could do, and how to use it…
They are going to say, " also, it can do this Well, in this case, we might like to do this… "

Just like the childrens’ book, " Give you a Mouse a Cookie", and also he’ll want exploit… give him
exploit, and he’ll desire… etc.

the upload tools do not have to be supported by the cms you choose although i’m sure you will discover a module correctly. i don’t employ CMSs or dreamweaver so you will have to figure that available. for sake of ease you could use a subdomain pointing towards path on the sites server into the. php file. with a < form> for user identify and password obviously. do a fundamental layout or fill out an application the sites theme if you so choose. basic html < form> with some php is on the internet for resizing and loading towards DB. read this line again after getting more conversant in php and it can make more good sense.
