Hi there, I am pretty new to web site design and only discovered HTML within the last week. I have read all the tutorials and understand HTML well in this article and am getting better at JSP and php making sure that I can eventually build a dynamic site. I’m using Dreamweaver to accomplish all this and also am having quite a few trouble. I need to generate a horizontal table for the top and a couple vertical tables upon both sides considering the body of the site at the center. My problem will be; the side stand does not wish to have anything next in order to it. The type promptly starts below that table and typing directly into above it only ends up with the table moving down the page (keep in mind that is in Dreamweaver). I determined I could handcode all-around this by building a giant table within the syntax:
< STAND BORDER=3> < TR> < TD ROWSPAN=2> links< /TD> < TD COLSPAN=2> heading< /TD> < TD COLSPAN=2> body< /TD> < /TR> < /TABLE>
This is fine to get a simple homepage, but I desire to implement a news posting system at the center with the tables about the sides. If Internet marketing not making very much sense here, I basically would like a layout much like that of http: //gtagaming. com.
And so my questions are generally:
- Learn how to keep the part tables locked to ensure that I can edit the biggest market of the page and not only type above or below your tables
- What can i use to create that news-post system like from the link I gave
- How can i go about developing that in my personal Dreamweaver design layout
With thanks, and sorry for being a complete idiot using this stuff
We all have to start off somewhere right
What you’re likely to need is the dirty little thing referred to as " nested tables". When you really shouldn’t use tables at all to develop some sort of layout, I find that for those venturing out, it’s a good way to getting a grip on structure on the page.
Quite simply, a nested table is probably that; a table within a table and it’s how most designes like the one you brought up are developed.
Here’s a sample:
< td> Stuff< /td>
This offers you (as you might see) a table that’s inside another table and much more control over the best way things are setup on your article. So you are now able to go about any page layout similar to this
< table> < tr> < td> A person's Page Header< /td> < /tr> < tr> < td> Kept Sidebar< /td> < td> < table> < tr> < td> Write-up Title< /td> < /tr> < tr> < td> here you'll be able to put some story text< /td> < /tr> < /table> < /td> < td> Right Sidebar< /td> < /tr> < tr> < td> Footer< /td> < /tr> < /table>
Again however, I want for you to stress that layout should only utilize tables to show tabular data instead of for design. That’s what CSS is good for, but that’s an alternative lesson and your far harder subject to purchase.. heh.
These days, to your second question from the " news-post system", that is definitely tricky. If you happen to be asking what dialect to program that in, I would point out use PHP since it’s fast, easy and on pretty much ever host available on the market. In fact, that’s just what exactly the link uses (if you simply can’t tell from your. php there.. lol).
Eventually, as to applying that in Dreamweaver, that’s really something you sort out as you create the script or after you have it written.
Wish that helps
(Typed way up quickly, so i highly recommend you forgive any transliteration errors/typos! )
Thanks for this code. I guess right now there really is no magic solution to make a layout like I’d like without getting good quality HTML experirence. I had been dead wrong wondering that Dreamweaver would compensate for my insufficient knowledge (what good is a WYSIWYG program if you dont know just what exactly the heck it will ). Anyway, I figured this php was possibly the best language intended for dynamic coding, but I had been more curious what exactly program they use for your " news-post system" (I stil dont know what they call this, but you see sites that way everywhere). It could not be handcoded, of which " leave the comment feature" should pretty complicated (in my own mind at least). WE Googled it as well as found nothing.
With thanks again.
Actually it isn’t really too bad involving aPHP script, but for another guy to PHP it can be very daunting.
I think you could be reffering to some form of blog software, I realize it’s fairly popular.
To get PHP tutorials, I always liked to use Code Walkers. You’ll find lots more, doo a google search with " PHP Scripts" or perhaps " PHP Tutorials" Everyone!
As to be able to what program many people use on in which site, I uncertainty it’s an " from the shelf" one. Most places that adheres to that use a made to order designed/in-house program to control those sorta elements.
Without taking precious time to learn about everything, the only option is always to try using similar to Post Nuke (http: //www. postnuke. com). It’s basically a web site site in some sort of box that’ll present you with a layout similar to the one you’re talking about as well as a ton involving other features (such as a news posting script).
This post may well not have any value to the post but I needed to comment for the statement above of which designing using tables is a superb starting point for freshies. Although that is how the majority of us starting designing websites typical I think it could be a step backward for novices today. Designing using furniture is so significantly different than using CSS you honestly is going to unlearn everything you know about tables to be familiar with CSS layouts. So if your own plans are to do this sort of thing for your living and need to ‘eventually’ get in to a higher form of webdesign using CSS, dont wait. Start learning CSS at this point befor tables virus ridden your mind.
