Frustrated with layout using div tags

Ive been wanting to create a sidebar upon my website the whole day and I can’t obtain it to work. I would prefer an empty div about the left to set up small ads/promotions plus information. Every time MY SPOUSE AND I insert a div licence plate it gets moved down once the content changes, and also it’s driving my family crazy. I dont learn how to get it while in the place I want without putting it into another div and positioning it, so then the content of that div moves this. Any tips bless you! I noticed that most of the web design businesses have used " Thoroughly clean Style " for own web websites. But I wanna give more severe and a deep seek out the site.
