Question about sites that may contain alot of Function

would likely it be easier to customize similar to drupal then form a site from ground up should the site will probably have alot associated with content and serverside function like: search icon, newsletter, blog… and do people guys prefer drupal being a open script web theme over others which may be offered

It depends on your expertise of coding… always nicer to get the control of writing the thing from scratch, but sometimes this is not economical with regards to time taken…

Relating to Open Source CMS solutions We’ve mainly during the past used Joomla! and one of its strengths is the amount of third party plug-ins that exist…

I now usually, in the main, use my own solution because the customers I include simply don’t need 90% on the functionality in Joomla! ‘s control panel and for that reason it’s easier to offer them just what they require to ease misunderstandings and/or support burdens dancing… no great expertise of Drupal We are afraid…

What I can’t stand about most CMSes MY PARTNER AND I see nowadays is that the flow is Pick and choose CMS > Choose Design > Convert Design > Choose Plugins > Insert Content. Which I can’t stand, because I typically create designs ahead of putting CMSes directly into them… I know they try to compensate for our flow, but the procedure is often too hard.

This is why my CMS, as an alternative to asking users to offer a format to help render (like wordpress’s trap thing), I just churn out a generic layout which might be customized via CSS since usual. A generic layout may not best, but on the other hand it’s not in which hard to personalize via CSS, as well as I do no problem programmers control… Evaluate CSS Zen lawn.

Plus I love the philosophy " give programmers a hard time as long because end users get pleasure from it". I absolutely loathe CMS interfaces with too many options and stuff that end users don’t need.

effectively i see.. but the thing is.. im having this hardest time even creating a stupid newsletter membership on my web page… i got a donate button along with contact form.. but need to find out how to can the newsletter script… we were looking at one or two like phplist ough guys got a fix for this

steax…

I’ve tried various open source newsletter/mailing lists scripts and am now considering writing my very own… none do precisely what I want, and also what the shoppers want… they’ve clearly happen to be written by programmers as an alternative to users… not at all user-friendly, very counter-intuitive etc. etc. etc.

Unfortunately this is found to often be the way in which with much belonging to the currently available Open Source, much as I really like it, especially relating to CMS or CRM. The products are usually developed by your developers *for* your developers, rather than for folks who aren’t used that will computers or creating an online business.

I doubt this can change any time soon. Open Source projects usually grow organically, as an alternative to being created in a controlled way beyond a specific business requirement. They often have all sorts of " really great gadgets", that your common business customer couldn’t care a bit about… I am a great advocate of Open Source relating to programming, IDEs and so on but I am more wary of them relating to " end user experience", especially if promoting to technophobic end users… they just desire to point and click, without all this junk…
