To use wordpress themes or not that is the question!

Acquiring been tought how to web design the good old fashioned technique ie fireworks along with dreamweaver etc. Should I conform and surrender and use an attractive pre made wordpress theme It appears as though useing a theme if you ask me is cheating in ways… After browsing a number of freelance sites We have noticed that a number of the ads look for someone who is aware of WordPress. I have no idea of anything about Live journal. I’ve read somewhat about what ?t had been, but I haven’t retained the data. However, seeing as how popular it is with clients We would say it’s worthy of investing my time in learning about it/utilizing the item. Money talks. Examine it this method… if you utilize a theme as a designer, it’s simply a matter of time before a competing designer sees the actual theme, recognizes it in addition to calls you on to the carpet correctly. And a many designers are petty, so they’ll attack within the lamest ways imaginable. If you build your individual, you take that off from them. I would prefer to apologize with regard to not reading your whole thread title.. For reasons uknown I … Continue reading

Feedback for planning v3.0 of our web publishing software?

Hi Everyone, v3. 0 of our own hosted web posting software is being made for Designers and Companies to (hopefully) help save time and developing efficiencies when offering fairly basic sites. Can you assist with some feedback please If you’re able to, please visit (EDIT: link removed simply by TheGAME1264) and let’s know your thinkings. It would really appreciated! Cheers – Fletch Okay. You want advice Here goes: 1) Don’t cross-post your ad from a review request’s entire body. 2) Post a guide request in the right forum using unique wording. If an individual read, you’ll come across it.

Is a ‘Different’ design concept better ???

This might be too general a question to anticipate an answer via but here goes.. I am in the deal of getting quotes from companies to get a 4 page website which includes. ne at top and sql at the back. The site shall be used by health-related staff who admit they aren’t computer experts! The three designs that have come back are usually all nice but one of these uses ExtJS desktop which can be radically different. ( notice dev. sencha. com/deploy/ext-4. 0. 0/examples/desktop/desktop. html page ) We have shown it by some friends and several say thats great cos its different, others have said why have a very website that appears like a desktop What do people think I love the simplicity connected with say apple. com but just undecided about the desktop What a concept that will lead to confusion IMHO. I’ve seen a niche site here and there that has been built like that, but I wouldn’t undertake it myself. People will exchangeable their desktops with the " website" pc, and that’s simply just too radical a new concept. Thanks to the comment. I think you happen to be right. I have a different website design … Continue reading

How do you secure your sites?

Without doubt Everyone, New to the forums here. I’m searching for feedback from designers and web developers who freelance or be employed by companies who create sites for customers. Have you observed customers asking about security How do you certify to customers the site you build is secure, specifically e-commerce sites Virtually any tips Thank you! You’re not likely to find a great deal of information on this kind of topic, just because lots of people will keep its security measures secret (and with great reason). But locations of the stuff I do. SSL. Should you be collecting sensitive facts, you need a single. This isn’t sometimes up for issue, either… most payment processors require one (assuming you collect payments against your site in contrast to redirecting users to a hosted payment page). Encrypt sensitive data on the server side. In a health club prefer Triple DES encryption because it’s what the particular payment processors make use of, but that’s simply just me. It’s also possibly not my only way of security. Don’t store plastic card info. The final four digits is usually fine, but storing the remaining info is asking for trouble. If you never store it, you’re not … Continue reading

Freelancing, Hiring, & Taxes

When planning a freelance webdesign organization, I was wondering how we handle taxes In the event you help out a number of people with web sites would you like to get a business license And when you hire web developers on a case-by-case schedule, are they theoretically employees Just curious how those of you running freelance web design businesses handle these things. The short, concise answer: " this depends". This will depend on how a person hire web developers/designers. They could be contractors or precise employees. I prefer the first kind myself, but to each their unique. This will depend on the tax laws as part of your state or province. In my specific case, I should register for a good HST (Harmonized Revenue Tax) number and charge and remit the ridiculous 13% tax to any Canadian customers, although I " obtain it back because with my expenses" (most of which are HST-exempt anyway). This will depend on how people register yourself (either for a contractor under your own name or like a business name). A business name requires a company license. I had just one for five years after which it gave it up because I had been my … Continue reading

As a consequence of templates, perhaps I don’t web themes were involve one of these from each has an unusual which I don’t think they use templates. If you compare the source code in an effort to the first a couple of examples are just about all WordPress, built to the same theme. The 3rd example is any template that both are using, which you could see by the CSS backlinks. And in the last example these … Continue reading

My First Noob Question :)

I see a growing number of sites lately coming out having a minimalistic block fashion, almost like your block tables of Decade ago. Is there any name for websites like this or some design style. I see quite some of these with the CSS3 Not sure if you experience a name regarding it… But stylisticly what There’s no doubt that you are seeing is a trend that last but not least caught on.. Because some people finally realized that Whenever you cram a site with an excessive amount information and advertising… People don’t hang up around… Using CSS encourages extra thought in content layout and content flow… Not just about the page.. But throughout the entire site… The rampant make use of templates and CMS offers had the impact ( IMO )… Involving designers adopting particular looks.. As they see numerous similarities between web pages they view… Make tend to design ( sub consciously ) by simply things they observe and or make use of everyday… Platforms had their location.. CSS is turning into a design standard that people want to apply ( finally… Naturally these years )…

How deep into IE do you go?

We have noticed my javascript large site doesn’t insert on IE7 and is loads of FUBAR on IE6. Does anyone actually design for these anymore if I do must fix this… any kind of advise WE don’t anymore, no. As much as I had been okay with IE6 once, it’s had its run and today it’s done. http: //www. ie6countdown. com/ Programs to know is right there. Great. Thanks I’m keen on to keep this site looking generally right on IE7 and up. I say IE7 merely because I haven’t yet come across a page bursting on 7 which didn’t also crack in 8, which is still utilized just enough in the form of pain in the ass. I would, just today, have a design break around 9 that seemed fine in 6-8… unique. My suggestions in order to clients on wether to compliment a design to get IE6, 7, EIGHT etc. Check out your log files to view how your visitors are accessing your site, if you have got 1000 visitors per day and 10% of which are using IE6( or even whichever version ), are you ready to turn away 100 visitors Your log files may help you … Continue reading

Creating a client-friendly template

Hello there, I have been commissioned create an e-newsletter template. This client, who has no web design experience, would being a template where all she has to do can be edit the wording and send the HTML e-newsletter out to her clients. I’ve never made a template for the client who is just not code-savvy. How does one guys normally attempt this, assuming she provides no software most designers gain access to I’ve been thinking of giving her that. HTML file and also she can spend less it, open them in Word, modify it in " web site preview" and merely save it along with e-mail it. Does this seem plausible There has to be an easier/more efficient way for us to handle the following (Edit – Moving thread for you to general webdesign discussion) HTML e-mail has become the last things the place that the design and array are still integrated tables. I’m very sure Word might wreck the system. You may also try creating a basic PHP subject material management system. It becomes very similar to an online contact form, and you could style it to produce it look beneficial when It’s delivered. To further explain spinning program … Continue reading
