Creating a forum

Hiya, I wasn’t guaranteed about which forum get started on this thread in… hopefully this the first is ok: classic: I’m pondering creating a online community for our intranet, mainly only for communication between staff members, such as logging computer glitches, leaving memos in order to other staff associates, etc. Can anyone recommend fine (cheap, if definitely not free) forum computer software, to save me the need to code something by myself Kind regards!: laugh: Assuming you can run PHP-based forums you’ll find lots of scripts you need to use. The most favorite free ones are generally http: //www. phpbb. com/ and http: //www. invisionboard. com/. To get paid boards you will find http: //www. vbulletin. com/ to get either $85/year, or $160 the initial year and then $30 for your other years. With thanks fil! I am going to give phpbb a go… I’ve a similar issue after having researched lots of forum software (though MY SPOUSE AND I missed phpBB). What I’m looking for is much simpler, more like your BLOG setup. Is there any simple way to setting up something similar to a BLOG yet with net access by only several people To paraphrase I post an … Continue reading

Free Forums

it is possible to best free forum that is the easiest to edit we have had a stick around in phpbb also it has given me personally a headache trying to find where the html code is kept in order to specify things for example widths etc. InvisionBoard is supposedly the most beneficial free one. i tried to have a look at that but coursesmart doesn’t work to me… is anybody else having this concern http: //www. invisionboard. com found the html page finally, it appeared to be all stored throughout tpl files I used phpBB RC2 a while back and located the templates a new nightmare to revise. Another good free website software is Burning up Board, http: //www. woltlab. de Version 1. 1. ONE PARTICULAR and 1. 2 are very good for me. I used this specific forum software ahead of i purchased vBulletin. Craig Cost-free: invision for positive, stylesheets are a certain amount of a hastle general health give no guide of where the class is used. Template editing is actually decent. website: http: //www. invisionboard. com Private: VBulletin for positive, template editing in addition to style editing can be great, it’s got leading edge features, and … Continue reading

Forum software

To start I just planned to let mods know I kept this kind of thread in below because I failed to really consider it a matter of web page design, but rather just straight up view. What’s your guys’ impression on software I have been doing a small amount of research and these and noticed basically each competitors in this particular market are (this site) as well as. phBB seems horridly created for templating, slow (I’ve heard) but not surprisingly is free. Invisionboard I’ve been very impressed by using. It packs just about all the capabilities vBulletin (2) offers, but of training is free. I’ve been looking through your coding lately, plus the templating system feels very intuitive and easy to run. Installtion is food, runs great and includes a half-decent skin. Furthermore the community with regard to iboard is rising exponetially (see world wide web. ibplanet. com) vBulletin seems to be the standard currently, but I can’t quite discover why. Not only are you experiencing to pay for the PHP/MySQL program, however , you must renew your liscence annually, abide by its policies and keep their copyright regardless of the. I had been just wondering your current guys’ opinion … Continue reading

Fourms, Message Boards – same thing?

This is a pretty lame concern, but I’m publishing the docs in order to an app and I don’t desire to sound stupid next time i say, Am I right in nevertheless what was previously called a Message Board is now known generally to be a Forum, or is there an implied difference between each It was actually originally identified as a Newsgroup, as with NNTP Newsgroups (alt. binaries. erotica anyone). Back prior to the WWW was sometimes around, newsgroups were the " community" from the world. Bulletin Board Techniques (BBS) eventually replaced Newsgroups if the web got popular. The main reason happens because people couldn’t find out the difference concerning HTTP and NNTP along with were utterly confused, so BBS’s contributed the newsgroup to HTTP format. Community forums = an alias for Bulletin Board Systems. Community forums are slightly several than BBS’s… they have got a structured linear arrangement, rather than the particular free-form recursive composition familiar to most Bulletin Board Devices. The main cause of the change is the fact that BBS’s confused people who have their complex principles heirarchies. A little something interesting… vB (the software powering this forum) is actually short for vBulletin, even though it’s … Continue reading

Invisionboard 2.0

Anyone look at the new attributes yet http: //forums. invisionpower. com/index. phpshowtopic=103232 It’s certainly still alpha software (although in the rate they work, it’ll be RC rapidly enough) I think a few of these features are superb improvements to almost any forum software… post. e. multiple attatchments in addition to native thumbnailing, in addition to multiple quoting. Uncomplicated stuff.. but stuff MY SPOUSE AND I haven’t seen at any forum program yet (although that they are fair I havne’t checked out vB3). Looks like some of the features are finally arriving at Invision Board which have been available to vB for some time. Not sure if most are hacks or come standard, but vB offers had the online/offline observe, Ignore User, in addition to Multiple Attachments attribute. That AdminCP looks quite extensive, more extensive approach standard phpBB AdminCP. vB3 has multiple attachments and a ridiculous amount of features that a lot of people will by no means use. Of training, the same by using IPB. spluf> > I understand most of people features (for vb2) usually are all hacks… IB has it really is share of hacks also. Although, since their software continues to be progressing at easy speed few … Continue reading

Is there room?

I’m developing a brand-new PHP/MySQL based forum. I am hoping to make it extremely easy to customize, accessable if anyone is with disabilities and expandable in order that it can run not simply forums, but whole sites. I am hoping to release a new commercial and freeware edition. Don’t you believe there is enough need for this I’m not relying on it to provide a stable income and My business is mainly creating it to find out if I could, but I merely wanted your opinions with this. A requirement for this Probably certainly not, there’s a good group powerful forum software out there already. Worth the shot Sure, why don’t you. Take a examine www. phpBB. com. You will need to make a forum atleast competitive with phpBB, because it’s free and popular. vBulletin is the first choice in commerical forum software systems, so they’ll always be your competition to offer a business version. You suggestion, if you need to play around along with writing forum code is usually to develop hacks for a preexisting forum. www. vBulletin. org is a very busy forum filled with members that write their particular add-ons to add to the functionality of vBulletin. … Continue reading

Best Forum Software / PHP vs CGI / search friendly URLs / etc.

Howdy all. A search here for " website software" found better discussions about a year old. So I would like to start a fresh thread…. here is what I understand and my fears: ONE PARTICULAR. vBulletin is " the common. " Most every serious forum employs it. It uses PHP which is extremely reliable. Excellent support forum. Price tag about $80. A COUPLE OF. InvisionBoard is cost-free, the best " free" website software, and 90% competitive with vBulletin, by all accounts. Also employs PHP, also is known for a great support community forum. The main distinction: not quite as simple to modify. (Not that they are confused with " Infoboard" in addition to " Ikonboard. " ) Therefore, it seems if you ask me the 2 decisions are vBulletin and also InvisionBoard. However I am not a programmer and We have these questions: SEVERAL. WHAT IS THE MOST BENEFICIAL CGI FORUM ALONG WITH SEARCH-FRIENDLY URLs I just did plenty of surfing for " directory-making" scripts at resourceindex. com—and it seems that PHP scripts NEVER advertise " seek friendly URLs. " So I am assuming, PHP are unable to do this We have discussed about " seek friendly URLs" right here … Continue reading

Free forums?

Curious question here.. I’m interested in some decent, zero cost forum software. Hear me out when you say " GO OBTAIN A LICENSE WITH PROGRAM xxx" A company partner and I are having a large site. You will be using vBulletin for any site itself soon after launch, but for now we are trying to put up user discussion forums where ideas might be swapped and just what not. It isn’t practical to buy a vBulletin license for both the dev forums and site forums, especially since the dev forums really are a short term thing. Can someone advise some freeware forums which may have decent admin tools This will be a generate but anything work. IIRC, vB allows you to set up a main forum and a dev forum considering the same license, given that there are not any external links towards forum, and it truly is for dev purposes merely. InvisionBB includes a free version I’m sure. www. theadminzone. com – Website stuff site – really good! also, have a look at http: //www. opensourcecms. com/ – they’ve got all the zero cost forum boards, sites, CMS, etc. with demo’s to find out them all released! browse… Thanks … Continue reading

Creating a Online Fourm Site

1. You need a web server provider (most ISPs hate you hosting website pages from home) TWO. You need discussion board software (vBulletin, Invision are some great ones for that $$$, phpBB may be a free alternative) 3. You need an excellent topic, with a little something unique, in order to acquire (and keep! ) users Well, you will need to firstly have a domain name and hosting, that’s compatable with the actual forum software. After youdo that I recommend, looking into vbulletin as well as phpbb, depending how much you are going to spend. I’d personally look directly into vbulletin, it is the best forum application on the market, and although its the most expensive it’s worth it. There are still free forum software packages out there vanilla phpBB Plus more… but I feel these are a very common vBulletin is on no account the most high priced; there is community software that costs over $10, 000 and there’s software that’s free. Which forum would it be that costs much… and it have to be something pretty specific to cost that sort of money vBulletin’s a superb value for the amount of money.
