PDF versus word
Will be advantage of PDF FILE over word documents in your website MS Word documents require Microsoft Word to watch them. (or another program that is able to read MS word documents) PDF(portable document format) requires simply a pdf viewer. I am not really aware of how many people with a pdf viewers versus those that have MS word, but since a word costs money and also a pdf viewer is often free, I would assume that you will find more people using the ability to perspective PDF’s then Term documents. Also pdf’s be capable of transport more subsequently just text papers, but can travel any virtually any good document, from photographs, spreadsheets, etc… When used in this way, they can be used much like a zip document. Plus you can cause basic multimedia-like sales pitches, and editiable varieties with pdf’s making use of Adobe Acrobat. In my opinion word documents, will be more of a ‘working file format’ where by pdf’s are more of your ‘end result’. Like how a cd would compaire into the digital traks recorded at a sound studio. The cd will be the finished product with the recorded music. You might also need more control … Continue reading

How much is a site worth?
Simply finished a project for any client and WHEN I reckon I undercharged, less than sure what the particular rates are. POST used php to implement. the business provides property services and there is already a site. I had to set up place a factory that allowed clients to: sign up for any mailing list request a good apointment view propertys for sale and let(picture and also pdf download for much more information) It also had to allow the provider to log in and also: add, edit and remove duplicate content the details for any propertys including uploading the images and also pdf files. Control the users in the company that experienced access. So what on earth you think Rates are influenced by what your market demands. There tend to be no standard rates. You should shop all the other designers in a person’s area, look at what your time is worth, just what your skills are generally, what services you can offer…… then selling price yourself. Every market differs (I am within the Seattle market) and I understand for a news that rates in Kansas City fluctuate than what I will command in this particular market. A very important … Continue reading

Searching PDF/LaTeX/Word Files
Howdy all, I’m building a portal for any mathematics department for you to house educational papers (exams, lesson programs, etc. ). I will have the files uploaded towards department server, but I want them to end up being searchable (so this other instructors will get similar documents). What do you recommend I use allowing searching given we need support for. pdf,. tex, in addition to standard word/text files Many thanks, Barry Hi Peter, I believe LaTeX will learn. tex and. pdf file docs. Later Word docs will be able to be parsed since plain HTML, nonetheless earlier ones are usually binary, like PDF. Because there’s a really variation, I think you happen to be gonna be hard-pressed in obtaining a single pre-built solution that can read everything. Another thing you might consider to create your life easier is merely using Google’s site-search aspect. Google reads Pdfs, Word docs, and HTML no problem. You should determine I assume you’re doing this as an intranet app – make sure you check Google’s premiere services to view if they provide intranet search features. Might be a fast fix for people. And since you’re an edu, you can probably get a new discount! Oh … Continue reading

Subject : Online Document Reader Design (doc, pdf, ppt, xls etc)
Hi all, My target would be to develop and online site (intra-net / LAN) with regard to our department instructions and standard managing procedures. One way is to simply make directories within web’s underlying and link up the many files to pages BUT that will make the end user able to download the words My second goal would be to secure this information also. i. e. No one could download this information recommended to their system. Only Read-Only. Can you suggest a rapid, simple solution That " read-only" matter is tough, because every file is delivered to a browser, it’s to the person’s PC, whether you wish it or certainly not. So, technically, they’ve already done more than " read-only". Not all people would be therefore tech savvy that they could do something with the file, but nonetheless, it’s there. If the files all been PDF files, you can use PHP to function the file to be a PDF content-type, so they would not have the ability to determine the source of the file, but they could still copy this, giving it their very own filename. You should not worry about any individual erasing or overwriting your files, because they … Continue reading
