Struggling for ideas on design

We would just like to learn what some of you choose to do to get creative and think of ideas for web site designs I struggle on this a lot, I’m more of the left brain programmer variety, but would really like to get into design. I like to see photography, and see how I can take a picture and change it into a banner for any site, and then let the form take off after that. As for that headers I plan to get rid of the Trebuchet MICROSOFT and replace it using a much more elegant TypeFace. Hello. The ther day i was browsing through my mobiles (cell phones) settings although looking at graphic options i determined something called publish image. Well this acquired me very interested as my organization is currently working on the website for friends to post thier pictures and thought it will be great if they could just take almost any pictures they desired and upload all of them onto the website right from thier phone! Right after looking briefly on google i didnt definitely find anything helpful. All i need is usually a server to include the pictures that will. What are my options?

Sorry to the extremely vague and noobish post, but where must begin I have a couple of sites i wish to streamline. basically seperate my personal data from the structure, and my personal structure from the design. At first we were certain that the perfect marriage would provide html + css + xml. How wrong we were! Said streamlining could involved using HTML to view a basic xml file for those of my website’s data (news, updates, so forth). Little did i know at that time, mozilla does not really support data islands, and thusly the idea was taken all to heck (as 50% and up of my viewing audience will be mozilla/netscape users). Really the only solutions i have realized have involved javascript hacks and extremely sophisticated XSL processors that appear to nullify the first intention of always keeping my sites straightforward to update. I just want to update a text(or whatever) record, then upload them to my site.
